The National Blues Music Art Museum is primarily and fundamentally an ART MUSEUM whose purpose is to fascinate, educate and entertain music fans and a broad array of tourists with IMAGES that have defined Blues Music over the past 150 years. The Museum will tell the story of the history and importance of Blues Music through artistic images that have been produced by a variety of artists, sculptors, photographers, folk artists, indigenous peoples, entertainers and festivals.
George Hunt’s bold, colorful original paintings and Blues Festival Posters will be a strong anchor for the Museum. Hunt has been creating large new paintings over the past five years specifically for the The National Blues Music Art Museum.
This Museum is considerably different from, and designed to be a compliment to the Blues Foundation’s Hall of Fame effort. It will not be a competitor or alternative visit.
Furthermore,The National Blues Music Art Museum will have among its exhibits a focus on Beale Street, both the images and history that makes this street so significant for Memphis and the Blues World as a whole. The facility will present authentic blues music in a small setting on a regular basis with the purpose of bringing the images from the museum alive.
The National Blues Music Art Museum is a collaboration between the nationally recognized blues artist, George Hunt and David Simmons, founder and curator of Blues & Legends Hall of Fame Museum and producer/curator of several nationally recognized touring exhibits.
